Mitten Pattern design

I wanted a pair myself and found the pattern online for Convertible Mittens on http://www.p2designs.com/images/patterns/MittConv.html. However this pattern is for a large mitten and I wear a S/M. Also I find it a little hard for a first mitten project. I found another pattern for plain mittens at www.hjsstudio.com What I liked is that it had a generic pattern in there that would require me to figure out my own pattern and yet gave me instructions for making a mitten.

The 2 patterns are different in that the Convertible Mittens does not set up the thumb. You simply put in a waste yarn and later work on the thumb. The Easy Mitten sets up the thumb using increases. I will see which one I like.

What I'm doing is working the Easy Mitten and yet adding the "glove" features at the appropriate rows. I will end up with a Convertible Mitten with adaptions for setting up the thumb. I am also following the yarn council guidelines as I write the pattern. (more on that later)

Hopefully this glitten will be a warm fit my 8" hand. Once done I'll do a test and let you know the results.
